5 things to do in the Lake District this Easter, chosen by our Head Office team
There's no time more magical than Easter to explore the Lake District, with its sprouting daffodils, bleating lambs and views for days. As Lakeland Leather was founded in picturesque Ambleside, where our HQ remains to this day, we feel well placed to offer some tips on how to spend some time in the area. So whether you're planning a visit, have it on your bucket list or you're locals like us, check out some of our favourite things to do in this special corner of the UK, handpicked by our very own Head Office team.
1. Conquer Loughrigg, Photographer Ollie's pick For those seeking adventure and panoramic views, Loughrigg is a must. At 336m high, it's one of the smaller Lake District fells but don't be fooled, it's no mean feat! The views of Windermere and the surrounding fells from the top are simply stunning. And don't miss Rydal Caves, a hidden gem complete with stepping stones and echo yodelling potential. Bring a good pair of walking shoes and a camera – the photo opportunities are endless.
2. Treat yourself at Friars Chocolate Shop, Graphic Designer Shona's pick After working up an appetite in the great outdoors, whether that's fell walking or exploring all the new shops, it's time to indulge. Head to Ambleside's famous Friars Chocolate Shop, a paradise for chocolate lovers. With all sorts of goodies on offer, including their unique hot cross bun truffle, you won't be leaving empty handed.
3. Catch a show at the Brewery Arts, Ecommerce Manager Rowan's pick If you're a culture vulture, head to Kendal and check out the Brewery Arts. No, it's not a temple for ales and bitters (although you can definitely enjoy a pint there!), it's a hub of theatre, comedy, live music and much more, with something for all ages.
4. Put the Lake in Lake District at Windermere, Buyer Natalie's pick What better way to truly experience the Lake District than with a cruise of Windermere, England's largest lake? There are plenty of routes to choose from, or if you're feeling particularly adventurous, you can even hire your own motorboat, rowing boat or kayak!
5. Walk in the footsteps of Wordsworth, Accounts Manager Beth's pick A stone's throw from our Head Office is the idyllic village of Grasmere, full of quaint cottages and blooming daffodils. Visit Dove Cottage, the former home of Wordsworth (he really put daffodils on the map) and learn about this literary legend. And don't miss the world-famous Grasmere Gingerbread, if you're not full from all that Friar's chocolate!
P.S. there's a secret 6th idea, an Easter egg if you will… Visit one of our Lakeland Leather stores! They're brimming with incredible leather jackets, bags and accessories, brand new womenswear and menswear ranges and super friendly staff who'd love to hear about your Lake District adventures.
